A 48-year-old man has been accused of killing his mother inside the Maryland home they shared, state police say.

Jeremy Gentry is facing multiple murder and assault charges following an investigation into the death of his mother, 68-year-old Beatrice Kay Gentry in the 200 block of Sand Castle Boulevard in Fruitland.

According to police, shortly before 9 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 in Wicomico County, members of the Fruitland Police Department and paramedics were called to the Gentry's home, where they were met by an unconscious Beatrice Gentry and her husband.

First responders found Gentry's body unresponsive in a bathtub inside the home, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The investigation led state police to identify Jeremy Gentry as a possible suspect, and he was arrested early on Monday, May 6 without incident in Wicomico County.

The exact cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy.

Gentry was charged with: 

  • First- and second-degree murder;
  • First- and second-degree assault;
  • Reckless endangerment.

As of Monday afternoon he was awaiting a bond hearing before a Wicomico County District Court Commissioner.
